Newsletter:
Term 3, Week 9

Principal's Pānui

Kia ora koutou,
Our Board of Trustees election voting closed yesterday, with final results expected next week. This newsletter is a great opportunity to thank our board for their commitment and support over the past three-year term. Governance in an Aotearoa New Zealand school is a unique role, and our board, led by Jeff Smit as Chair, with Keri Campbell as deputy chair, has been vital in guiding the direction of our kura. They have set the course for our school's future and have played a key part in further strengthening our community connections. At our new school site, we may not have had to deal with the scale of community challenges like Redcliffs boards prior, but the governance mahi has been vitally important to enable our school is set up for the students, staff and whānau we have here now, and the in the years of exciting opportunities that await us in the future.

On a personal note, I want to thank Jeff Smit, Keri Campbell, Marie-Claude Herbert (MC), Richie Dimbleby, Michelle Cook and Abby Blanch & Monique Stevenson (staff reps) for their support and guidance during my transition into the role of principal. The board's support for our leadership team has been invaluable, ensuring that our staff and students are well-resourced. Jeff Smit is stepping down as our Presiding member and 2 terms on our school board, whilst Keri is also ending his time after 6 years. We will be seeking to co-opt Michelle with her finance expertise onto our board as we transition into a new governance term. Richie and MC have run for re-election. The keys to our board’s success has been the heart and care for our school community, a diversity of thought and skills, willingness to put the needs of our school first and the strategic mindset that everyone has brought to the role. It has been a privilege working with you all.

Speaking of great community connections, some awesome opportunities to get ‘on board’ with the Battle of the Bays and our Ihutai Golf Association Tournament. A great way to get out and enjoy time with good people in the fresh air!
If you’re looking for a good way to connect without the sporting context, there’s no better place right now than a crisp spring morning on our school deck with the cafe open and our awesome coffees (Wednesday or Thursday).

Thanks for the great turnout of whānau to our learning conferences this week. This is invaluable connection time between home and school and in an increasingly busy world of digital communication, there’s nothing like being face to face | kanohi ki te kanohi. We have had 90% of our school booked in this week. If you have missed your chance to listen about how your child is going in their learning, please make some time in the last week of this term or the start of Term 4.

Thanks as always for the support. Noho ora mai,
Nick Leith
