Newsletter: Term 3 - Week 8
Just a couple of weeks are left in the term, but there is still much to achieve - namely, our Market and Enterprise Day next Tuesday. We hope you can make it down to enjoy the energy of student commerce in action. This week has been a busy one, with students turning product prototypes into mass-production lines. No dount it will be a great afternoon with some awesome learning. We also have our group of Year 8 students departing for China on our cultural exchange trip next Thursday. They will be winging their way to Beijing on Thursday and then on to Jinan via the bullet train, where they will spend time in schools as ambassadors for our kura and NZ - quite the honour! There will also be plenty of time for touristy activities, and we know they will return with some great stories to share. Thanks to all of you who have supported their fundraisers to support the trip. Our intermediate-aged students finish their term at the Koru Games - the South Island’s largest sports tournament, which is held at venues around Lincoln and Rolleston. It is another great opportunity for our young people to broaden their sporting horizons and meet new kids from all over the region. To top it all off, we have our annual Aupaki Cultural Festival at Te Aratai College on the last Tuesday of the term. This is an awesome opportunity for our Kapa Haka performance group to share their best in front of our local school’s whānau.
An exciting finish to the term will be the development of our undercroft space (the area below the netting on the deck) during the break. We have been chipping away at plans for some time, and the area will be turned into a quiet space for kids to get a bit of respite from the noise that radiates from the amphitheater-style design of our school, or to offer an opportunity for teachers to use an outdoor classroom space. Our significant Tōtora tree will be boxed up to provide seating around its base, and the stones will be removed and replaced with turf. This project has seen a significant contribution of close to $20,000 from our PTA, which is something our students, staff, and Board of Trustees are extremely grateful for. A huge thank-you to the PTA for supporting this development, which we know will create a different kind of space for our kids to interact with and enjoy. The remainder of the funds has been covered by significant charitable grants from Pub Charity and the New Zealand Community Trust. We are excited to share this development with our young people at the start of Term 4.

There are a couple of forms to fill in at present if you can spare a minute. We are seeking a good turnout for our school community muck-in on Saturday next week (19th Sept). Q has been stockpiling supplies for this, and there will be plenty to be done, no matter your level of DIY/maintenance confidence. Please take a moment to help us out if you can - click here to sign up.
Our Kelly Club after-school programme is also looking for feedback to help them with future planning, so please take a moment to complete their survey, especially if you have utilised this service over the last couple of years - complete here.

Have a great end to the week, a big couple of weeks ahead!
