Newsletter: Term 3 - Week 6
A huge thanks to our parents, caregivers, and whānau for the support of our annual 'Book Week' last week. We appreciate the situation is tight for many families in the current financial climate, and the level of support for Nicola Holdaway’s book fair was clearly evident. Your willing support of this not only creates an extra funding stream for our library to keep our literature fresh, exciting, and relevant, but also highlights an ongoing love of reading in our school community, connected in large part through the love of our school library. Our young people are extremely fortunate to have this access to new books in their lives and such a cool school library and local community one also.
Spring is on our doorstep and with that comes a bit of a bottleneck with gardening at our place that we really struggle to stay on top of. With the added excitement of Battle of the Bays towards the end of the school year (Saturday 5th December), it becomes a bit of a race against time for our part-time caretaker Q to get the place looking ready for the big event, while also keeping our 38 school gardens tidy for our students, staff, and community who interact with our site daily. With this in mind, we are seeking your help as a school community to come together on Saturday morning, 19th September (from 10am) to muck in and get a whole bunch of jobs done around the property—mostly gardening and painting. A sign-up form will come out in this week’s wiki, but please save the date if you’re keen to help out. It should be fun, too!
We are excited to share some further property mahi happening around the development of our Undercroft space (the garden area below the netting on our deck) to create a more practical, user-friendly setting—especially for those in our school who need a bit of a quiet space at times, or teachers looking to utilise an outdoor classroom space. We will be transforming this space over the coming term break thanks to funding from our PTA. The work below the deck will enable seating, turfed grass, shade, and space for our students and classes to interact in a quieter part of our school. We are extremely grateful to the PTA for supporting this project, which will be completed with the help of charitable grants.
While we’re on thank-yous, a special one also to parent and local legend Kieran Sutherland who works at CIC Financial and has offered to support our school market day with a donation of some ‘seed capital’ for our classes in their financial planning around their businesses. Thanks Kieran! We are excited to use this support alongside that of the business and entrepreneurship group from Te Aratai College, who are visiting next week to share their knowledge with Tamahika around product development and marketing. Our Market Day will be a great community event in itself—lock it in your calendars for the afternoon of Tuesday 15th September.
We are into the 'business end' of the term now, with lots of awesome things to celebrate and bring everyone together over the coming month.

Individual Touch Registrations - A notice from Kelly Sport
Following confusion and hesitation regarding the Term 4 Aupaki Touch module and individual registrations, we aim to provide clarity and reassurance to families.
With Kelly Sports coordinating the module, the Aupaki Schools unanimously agreed that Kelly Sports would help to place individuals into teams for the module rather than this falling onto schools and already overworked teachers.
At Kelly Sports, we try to make things as simple as possible for the schools and families we work with, and this is one way we can help. Assembling sports teams is never easy, and our team has experience in doing this fairly and ethically.
Individual registration is not intended to split students away from their schools; rather, it helps streamline the registration process for everyone involved. Once players have registered as a Free Agent, Kelly Sports will look to place students into teams alongside other students from their school. During this process, we will also liaise directly with our school contacts to ensure we capture all students looking to play.
You now have the option on the form to name any children your child may like to play alongside.
Kelly Sports will only create combined teams from multiple schools if there are not enough students from the same school, ensuring no player misses out.
If you have any questions or queries, please contact the organisers directly at sport@aupaki.nz

This policy provides staff members, parents/caregivers/whānau, students, and the wider school community with clear procedures for raising concerns and making complaints. Complaints may also come from members of the public.
Our concerns and complaints procedures enable us to:
- maintain a safe environment for our students and staff
- treat all people fairly and with dignity and respect
- resolve matters of concern early and at the lowest level, if possible
- respond to feedback and concerns constructively
- deal with complaints fairly, effectively, and in a timely manner
- take into account individual circumstances
- maintain privacy and confidentiality
- preserve and enhance school and community relationships
- check that solutions have been implemented and are working, including feeding back to the person who raised the issue where appropriate
- monitor and record concerns and complaints about student safety and wellbeing
- meet our legal and ethical obligations.
We foster open communication and encourage our school community and members of the public to contact us promptly when issues involving the school arise. We advise people with concerns or complaints to raise these with the school in the first instance, rather than sharing concerns with other people or online.
Most concerns can be resolved informally through discussions with the people involved – see Raising Concerns. If informal discussion doesn’t resolve the issue, you may wish to make a formal complaint.

Online GP care now free for ākonga 13 and under
With health services experiencing high demand, online GP care is an option for accessing care and the service is now free for all ākonga up to, and including, the age of 13.
Appointments usually take place through a video app or a phone call and the service can prescribe medicine and send prescriptions to your nearest pharmacy. It also provides another care option for rural communities.

Feeling the pinch on lunchboxes?
https://www.kiwilunchbox.co.nz is a free tool built by an Auckland parent. It plans a week of school lunches around whatever is on special at Woolworths and New World, shows what the week will cost, and gives you a prep plan. No account needed, nothing for sale.
That's the only ask, and I won't follow up. Happy to answer any questions.
Thanks for all you do, Yong Jae Lee
