How are Te Raekura Redcliffs Classrooms Organised?
Our aim is to develop a strong pathway of learning through our school ensuring the vital skills of learning to read, write and applying mathematical processes are set as a solid foundation upon which to flourish as our students move their way through our school.
Our learning spaces are structured in pairs but our students are placed with one main teacher to each classroom. This is to ensure strong pastoral care and clear communication.
Our classes generally consist of 20-28 learners – this varies as students grow through our school.
Te Ana (New Entrants)
As the gateway to our school education our new entrant classes provide a welcoming, caring and stimulating environment where young children are introduced to routines and learning habits to set them up for success in our learning pathway. Small class numbers enable close teacher connection and positive relationships with other new entrant students, their new friends on their educational journey.
Te Awa (Year 1&2)
Our learners begin establishing strong learning routines and learning habits with close support from their teachers. These are important years for developing confidence in our core curriculum areas and beginning to make connections across the curriculum.
Te Urunga (Year 3&4)
Children in these years are developing greater independence in the classroom. The learning
programme has a strong emphasis on curriculum and building connections to key learning
concepts in social sciences and science.

Waipātiki (Year 5&6)
With foundational learning concepts generally developed, these years allow further exploration into the concepts of identity, leadership, individual goal setting and representing our school in sporting, cultural and performance areas.
Tamahika (Year 7&8)
Our Intermediate space offers a tailored learning programme that meets the unique needs of the emerging adolescent. Increased expectations of self management and connection to the wider curriculum are key elements of classroom learning. An exciting programme of Education Outside the Classroom (EOTC) and Technology learning are additional opportunities to engage in learning off campus. We seek to harness the talents of our pre-adolescent learners by creating enrichment opportunities that extend capabilities and offer new opportunities.
What does learning support look like?
All students are assessed for their learning level at the beginning of an academic year, or arrival to our school from international locations so that we can understand more about their learning needs.
Students identified as requiring extra learning support are provided this through our learning
support programme.
Options for learning support include:
- Reading, writing and mathematics support
- English as a second language (ESOL)
We also seek to provide our students with academic strengths as further outlets for enrichment
and extension through various STEM based learning opportunities and curriculum extension
groups.
